Our Supplier List.
- supply our fabrics and currently make our garments, including all trims aside from buttons. Located in Qingdao, China - Hemp Fortex became the second ever factory member of the Fair Wear Foundation in 2011.
See our mini-documentary from 2018 where we visited Hemp Fortex in China on about page.
Hemp Fortex predominantly makes hemp and hemp-blended fabrics, it runs on solar power and holds certifications with the Organic Content Standards (OCS 100 and OCS Blended) and the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). It also adheres to EU standards for dyeing and waste water treatment.
The Fair Wear Foundation
- are an independent not-for-profit that works with brands and suppliers to improve labour conditions for garment workers. They conduct a yearly audit of the conditions in Hemp Fortex's facilities.
Where we'd like to get better - While we have avoided animal products throughout our garment and trims development, we'd also like to be completely plastic free.
Currently the internal labels are a woven organic cotton, the external yoke label is made from jacron paper and the swing tag of rice paper, cardboard and cotton cord - but we haven't yet been able to find an alternative to polyester for the flag label, or for the core of the thread the garments are sewn with.
We'd also like to move production to Australia, and are currently researching makers on the east coast.
